After Nelly Furtado revealed she was to give money received for performing for Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi to charity, there were calls for Beyonce to do the same. But the singer's publicist has revealed she's already done so. She donated the £615,000 fee she was paid to perform for the leader's family members to boost Haiti earthquake relief efforts more than a year ago.
Meanwhile Mariah Carey has expressed her regret about performing for Gaddafi's son in 2006 at a private party in the Caribbean. "I was naive and unaware of who I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess," said the pregnant singer, who was also paid £615,000. "Ultimately we as artists are to be held accountable. Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. "We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows."
