Amanda Bynes Locked Up for Two More Weeks at Psych Ward while Parents Seek Conservatorship

Amanda Bynes won’t be leaving the psyche ward where she was involuntarily held these last 72 hours; a judge presiding over the case extended her stay for 2 weeks as the hospital attempts to figure out what is wrong with the addled starlet. The initial hospitalization followed her making a fire in a stranger’s driveway near her parent’s Thousand Oaks neighborhood. After lighting a fire, she rushed into a liquor store to wash off her pet Pomeranian which she accidentally soaked in gasoline while building the fire.

The people who live at the house she set fire to called the police, who caught up with her and decided to detain her with a 5150 hold – an involuntary psychiatric hold.

Though her lawyer argued Thursday night for her dismissal from the facility, the presiding judged decided to keep her detained. Her parents, meanwhile, Rick and Lynne, are seeking conservatorship, which would grant them full legal control of her life.

That Bynes might have a mental problem is old news: many have speculated about it, as the star became intensely weird, as her friends reported, tweeting things she normally wouldn’t such as she wanted rapper Drake to “murder her vagina” and then tweeting to Rihanna, “Chris brown beat you because you’re not pretty enough.”

She also threw a bong out her window when police visited her apartment, and then claimed one of the police “slapped her vagina.”

It is hoped at least that the psychiatrists can figure out what could be wrong with the former Nickelodeon starlet and bring her to a happier place.

The parents of Amanda Bynes believe she's a substance abuser who has become paranoid, delusional and is draining her bank account ... this according to legal docs obtained by TMZ.

Amanda's parents filed papers in an attempt to win a temporary conservatorship.  In the docs, they say Amanda has become "extremely paranoid about being watched," and she covers smoke alarms with towels and tapes windows shut to prevent cameras from shooting her.

 

The parents go on -- Amanda has "profound issues with her body image" and is "obsessed with the fact that she (and others) are ugly."

The parents say Amanda had $4 million in the bank, but is blowing a huge amount of cash -- she spent $1.2 mil in a very short amount of time.  Amanda withdrew $100k on June 4 and another $100k on July 2 and the parents have no idea where the money went, but they mention they believe she spends "a substantial amount" for marijuana and other illegal substances.

The parents say Amanda doesn't connect with reality, telling them she "cabbed it" from New York to L.A.  The parents believe she's homeless.

The documents described what TMZ first reported ... that the parents are hanging their hats on the driveway fire incident to show Amanda is a danger to herself and others.

The court denied the petition for a temporary conservatorship Friday morning, because the judge wanted more info.

Opinion: Insanity, or Not So Much…? My Take on Amanda Bynes

Britney did it. We can all remember the crazy antics of that child star turned teen starlet turned adult superstar, and if Britney can make a comeback from that to inspire still millions more women, why can’t Amanda Bynes? And if she realizes that it’s not working she can always choose the way of Amy Winehouse and let the addiction drive the rest of her life and career until she’s done. Whenever that is. The attention is certainly part of it, but I bet it roots further than that.

What identity does she have that wasn’t created by the media or the various characters she’s played on television and in movies? When I felt I had no identity I went searching for it, so maybe this child-star turned teen starlet is going the way of the adult pyromaniac. It’s a way to feel something in a world where fame and fortune are the important things in life.

If anything, she needs a good girlfriend to kick her in the butt and remind her that there are more important (less arson-y) things she could be doing to get the attention she so desperately seeks.
